on a high after the end of end-of-semester uni exams, i thought it was really about time to get carried away at the mid-year sales. and managed to beat the other skinny girl to this jacket (ha!). 
and start a promised makeover to some pants (found during a past op shop treasure hunt) which had been waiting so patiently to get a little love. i imagined their former flared-leg hippy life must have been excitement-filled indeed. but then add elastic to the hem, and BAM!

i fell in love with a stephen jones rose of paris headdress.

i was watching rain-drops falling into puddles on a rainy winter morning, when i realised what day it was. only the very last day to go see hats: an anthology by stephen jones at the queensland art gallery. on a moment's impulse, i pinned on my beret and set out to glimpse (in wide-eyed awe) into the fascinating world of millinery, before mr jones packs his trunks back to london. 
oh hearts! the room was absolutely filled with designer collaborations (paint-easels for dior, wooden cone shapes for comme de garconnes)...a piece of clear plastic moulded to resemble a splash of water (the "wash n' go"). and silk tulle, knits, straw, feathers, satin...crafted into truly beautiful creations.

it all started when, still buzzing on the remnants of playing hide and seek + pleasant autumn afternoons in the park, i walked out the door one morning wearing only a light cotton long sleeved top over a silk maxi dress. it was june and i realised (late! already on the way to uni argh!) that it was cold. during the pre-lecture ritual of skipping through the shops along my way, something furry and soft brushed against my arm. a most beautifully warm looking white-grey fur vest was half-hidden in between bright summer dresses on sale. i tried it on, and yes. yes, it was beautiful. and warm. i dreaded wandering outside without it. but it was the last one. and very expensive. and not in my size. it was with a broken heart that i replaced it on its wooden hanger.
but so began the desperate must-have search for the perfect fur vest…

once in a while somebody somewhere with such style wanders across my path, that i can do little but be admiringly mesmerised.  i find myself just wanting to dump my whole wardrobe and start over. catherine baba is oh so one such person.

grandma made it

amnesia.

an op shop adventure is never complete if you don't pick up a size 16 old-lady dress. and while the sweet dear at the counter told me how lovely it was that i was buying something for grandma, i smiled innocently, hoping that the seamstress-scissors i also managed to find there(!) were not giving away my intentions...
